FAQs

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. I provide consultations for most projects so we can discuss your goals, evaluate the scope of work, and determine the best solution for your home. After reviewing the project, I'll provide a detailed estimate outlining the work to be completed.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Harris Talsky Construction is a licensed and insured general contractor. I take pride in providing professional workmanship while giving homeowners confidence that their project is being completed properly.

What areas do you serve?

I proudly serve homeowners throughout Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, Twentynine Palms, Morongo Valley, Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, Desert Hot Springs, and surrounding communities throughout the Coachella Valley and High Desert.

What types of projects do you specialize in?

I specialize in cabinet refacing, cabinet refinishing, cabinet painting, finish carpentry, custom built-ins, interior trim, residential repairs, and a variety of home improvement projects.

What's the difference between cabinet refacing and cabinet refinishing (cabinet painting)?

Cabinet refacing replaces your cabinet doors and drawer fronts with new ones while updating the exposed cabinet frames to match. It's the ideal solution if you'd like to change your cabinet style, update to modern shaker doors, or achieve the look of natural wood with new stain-grade doors while keeping your existing cabinet boxes. Cabinet refinishing, often referred to as cabinet painting, keeps your existing cabinet doors and drawer fronts while updating their appearance with professional preparation and a durable sprayed finish. It's a great option if you like your current cabinet style but want to change the color.

How do I know if my cabinets should be refaced or refinished?

If you'd like to change your cabinet door style, replace worn or damaged doors, or create the look of natural wood with new stain-grade doors, cabinet refacing is often the best choice. If you like your existing cabinet doors and simply want to update the color, cabinet refinishing (cabinet painting) is usually the better solution. If you're unsure which option is right for your kitchen, I'm happy to evaluate your cabinets and recommend the approach that best fits your goals and budget.

How long does cabinet refacing take?

Typically 3-4 weeks. Every project is different depending on the size and complexity of the kitchen, but cabinet refacing is generally much faster than replacing all of the cabinetry because the existing cabinet boxes remain in place.

How long does cabinet refinishing take?

Typically 1 week. Project timelines vary depending on the number of cabinets, repairs, and the finish selected. During your consultation, I'll provide a realistic timeline so you know what to expect.

Can I upgrade hardware?

Absolutely. I recommend using soft close hinges and cabinet pulls that match the design of your kitchen for an elevated look and optimal function.

Can you build and install cabinets and shelving?

Absolutely. I install custom cabinets, shelving, built-ins, and storage solutions for any room in the house: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, closet, entryway, living room, dining room, garage.
